What To Expect
What To Expect :
The first time I meet your horse, I will perform a whole-horse assessment. This involves seeing your horse move as well as evaluating their posture and range of motion to look for possible asymmetries and imbalances. I will palpate your horse to isolate the specific areas of concern which I will address that day, as well as to familiarize your horse with the intimacy of the massage session. Some horses are more tolerant of the hands-on nature of massage than others and I will tailor my session to suit their level of comfort. After assessment, the session itself will typically last 1 to 1 ½ hours. I ask that you are present for the entirety of the first session if possible, but at minimum for the initial assessment at my first visit. If I have recommendations for home care in between sessions, those will be provided to you. In some cases, your horse’s needs may be out of the scope of what bodywork can help with. In those cases I will recommend a veterinary examination as follow-up to our visit. Your horse should have at least a 10 minute brisk hand walk after their session and the next day should be an *easy* ride. Their body will need some time to adjust. For this reason, I also do not advise scheduling their first session within a week prior to an important show. I want them to be able to perform their best for you!
Preparing for Your Horse’s Session:
Please have your horse caught from the field, dry, and relatively clean before I arrive. Do not hose them down unless there is time for them to completely dry before our appointment. A bodyworker can not work on a wet horse or a horse who has had coat conditioner applied (ie. NO Show Sheen and minimal flyspray). I appreciate that these things make your horse super beautiful, but they greatly affect my ability to glide over their skin/muscles effectively and, more importantly, makes it fairly uncomfortable for your horse during our time. For obvious reasons, scheduling sessions outside of feed-time is a superb idea! Our session can be performed in any low-traffic space, protected from inclement weather, with good ventilation. That can be a stall, grooming area, run-in shed, cross-ties… Wherever your HORSE is most comfortable is where I am most comfortable.
Cancellation Policy :
A no call/no show results in full session charge + quoted travel fees.
As an equine professional, I must insist on a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. I understand the nature of emergencies and unpredictable events, but there will be a $50 fee for appointments cancelled/rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice.
